Description
Belsap is a super absorbent polymer (SAP) for efficient utilization of water and fertilizer to enable seedling and crop establishment particularly in water-stress environments. It may be used in both rain-fed and irrigated crops.
Active ingredient:
80% w/w cross linked potassium acrylate copolymer
Target crops:
Horticultural crops, ornamentals/flowers, cereals, fruit trees, forestry,
tobacco, coffee, tea, cotton, bananas, miraa (khat), Etc.
Benefits of Belsap:
- Improves fertilizer absorption and efficiency
- Improves seedling survival rate by 95-100%
- Extends time between irrigations, reducing irrigation costs
- The water saving polymer: extends benefits of rainfall
- Provides for faster plant establishment. Reduces transplant shock and moisture stress
- Greatly reduces soil compaction due to swelling and shrinking process of crystals
- Promotes healthier root system through increased aeration and drainage of the soil
- Results in crop yield increase of 22% to more than 45%
- High returns as yields increase
- Nano-clay Belsap upon decomposition releases K and Fe nutrients into the soil
- Reduces nutrients leaching (retain fertilizers & other soluble addictives)
- Extremely cost effective. Reduces labour and maintenance costs associated with watering
- Allows plant growth in extremely hot and dry climates
Directions for use:
Belsap can be applied in broadcast or row applications. In broadcast applications, spread the crystals
evenly on top of the soil and work down to a depth of 5-20cm depending on the crop. Crystals may
be applied with a seed spreader or by hand provided the crystals are evenly spread over the growing
area. In row application, the crystals are placed in the seed slot along with the seed or seedling.
Fertilizers and other addictives may be applied at the same time without any negative effects. T
he crystals absorb the fertilizer and release slowly optimizing the duration that the fertilizer is available
to the plant.
How Belsap works
Once belsap is applied and incorporated into the soil, on watering, the crystals absorb water and swell
rapidly. When soil dries out and reaches 50% field capacity, the crystals are engineered to release moisture.
This triggers the roots to grow to the new found moisture source provided by the presence of the hydrogels
(saturated crystals). This process promotes increased root mass resulting in larger plants and increased crop yield.
When the water is taken up by the plant, the particle shrinks and is ready for the process to repeat.
Application rates
Application rates vary depending on crop, climate and soil condition. For field crops, use 8-10 Kg/Ha in row application
and 30-35 Kg/ha in broadcast application. For horticultural crops, use 8-10 Kg/Ha in row application and 30-35 Kg/Ha
in broadcast application. For tree seedlings 30gms per planting hole. Smallholder farmers may put a “pinch” of belsap
in planting holes along with the seed or seedling. In row application, the location of the plant changes from season
requiring additional applications of
belsap for each planting. Please see our product label for complete information on application rates.
Environmental safety:
Belsap is non-tonic and environmentally safe. It has no residual toxicity in the soil. Belsap biodegrades into base
components parts of ammonia, carbon dioxide and water. Due to its potassium base structure Belsap does not
increase salinity levels in the soil. It has shown no toxicity to plants, birds, fish animals and soil organisms.
Belsap has a neutral PH (6-6.8)
